Circus workshop for the Highfield Humanities community day featured a number of our students taking to the outside stage to demonstrate their Circus skills. The photo above shows Martyn Hawkins 12, Jamie-Lee Coldham 20 and James Wade 20 rehearsing for their part in the demonstration. Other participants were Thomas Senior, Danial Tate-Pots and Max Salthouse. These outdoor events give the students a wonderful opportunity to practise their Circus skills and work together on new routines. They can also be very competative, see the video on youtube.
On Saturday they went on a tour of the Tower Ballroom and Circus with historical notes from Professor Vanessa. Some groups stayed to go up the lift to the Tower top and others made their way to the Pleasure beach. All met after lunch in a large room set aside for them by “Visit Blackpool” in the Olympia of the Winter Gardens. A further workshop on presenting a performance was conducted by Felicity Fernando and there was a general workshop exchange between groups plus visits to the exhibitions in “Showzam central”
All the groups took part in the 2010 “Showzam Parade” The groups participation made this years parade the best to date with Blackpool Circus School, being local, made up the largest group.Organized Kaos from Swansea brought the excitement of fire to the event. See the video.
Some tired clowns following the performance to the parents and pupils of Flakefleet Primary School. This was the final curtain on our 3 month project that was funded by the Wyre Strategic partnership. All of the Primary year 4s & 5s presented at least one new Circus Skill that they had learned during the project. This was delivered by Yuri & Tonya Gridneff and 19 year old Jamie Lee-Coldham, the latest addition to our teaching staff.
